Hello, Lonely Road

about

"Hello, Lonely Road is a love letter to the cyclical process of romantic entanglement and parting ways. The music video for Pretend Collective's lead single features candid, authentic footage of vocalist and songwriter Mike Reilly's extended family, shot on 8mm in the early 1980s, in contrast with present day imagery to depict the 'lonely road' in question as the journey of life, sometimes somber and solitary, but often filled with the beautiful people who fill up our lives.”

lyrics

i have a friend who has a friend of mine
he has her heart and she has his mind
they have each other for the rest of a little time
they break the mirror
she names her fear
and he can’t hear her
as they disappear

hello, you lonely road
i stubbed the same toe on the same old stone
if the lonely road is the only way that you know
then let me take you home

i have an inkling she’s got a number, mine
i get the feeling she’s feeding me the line
it takes two to tangle so we twist and intertwine

hello, you lonely road
i stubbed the same toe on the same old stone
if the lonely road is the only way that you know
then let me take you home

they break the mirror
they break the mirror

you have your heart and you have your mind
they’re yours to lose or let someone find
they have each other so they’re both gonna be just fine

hello, you lonely road
i stubbed the same toe on the same old stone
if the lonely road is the only way
take me home

about

Pretend Collective New York, New York

“Cornered formulas morphing crackling day-tripping narratives into thoughtful yacht-rock holidays ...electric rodeos and paisley parades in work-week secrets and slow-burning concerns. Rallying ballads dipped in hazy persuasions...sprinkles slightly sinister melancholy into time-warped stories supported by cavorting metaphors and sneaky clichés.” –John Noyd/MAXIMUM INK ... more
